Teluk Cempedak, 1st March 2022 – Lush Malaysia and Hyatt Regency Kuantan Resort, recently collaborated for a Beach Clean-up Campaign to spread Awareness on Saving our Oceans from Plastic.
Every year tons of garbage end up in the oceans due to indiscriminate disposal of waste. Sixty percent of this waste is plastic. Plastics are very hazardous to marine life, killing more than a million birds and over 100,000 seals, turtles, whales and fish in our oceans.
A total of 55 people, (Influencers Azfar Heri, Jestinna Kuan, May Ho, Adriana Adnan, Shalma Ainaa, Lovell Jia, Nicole Lai, FuYing, Mya Zulkifli, and Volunteers) joined the organizers to participate in the beach clean-up. Within 1.5 hours, we collected a total of 60 kg and 1,600 pieces of trash comprising mostly plastic bottles, plastic bags, plastic containers, cigarette butts and sweet wrappers. All of which are supposed to be thrown into recycle bins but instead, ended up in our oceans and beach.
We strongly believe that the only thing that should be left on our beaches are our footprints. As the saying goes, “We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.”
